Airline CEO Gives Up Seat for Mom Late for Camp Pick-Up

Once in awhile, an airline employee does something that goes above and beyond the call of duty to help a customer. But it's probably safe to assume that none of those employees were the CEO of the airline.
But it was the CEO in the case of the mother of a 12-year-old with type 1 diabetes earlier this month, according to a Facebook post.

Fair enough? - Weigh More, Pay More on Samoa Air

WELLINGTON—In an era where cash-strapped carriers are charging for luggage and meals, a tiny South Pacific airline is pioneering a radical pricing model that no other airline has dared to try: charging passengers based on their weight. Customers flying Samoan upstart carrier Samoa Air Ltd. on short international hops to neighboring American Samoa are set to pay US$0.92 per kilogram, or $0.42 a pound, for each flight.

Emergency exit 'blew open' on Hong Kong-bound Emirates A380 flight

A British tourist has claimed an emergency exit on an Emirates Airline superjumbo blew open at more than 8,000 metres on a flight from Bangkok to Hong Kong.
David Reid and his son Lewis heard what they thought was a "massive explosion" two hours into Monday's flight on the £250 million (HK$3 billion) Airbus A380. Freezing air blasted in and the cabin pressure plunged after the door in business class came 4cm ajar, leaving a gaping hole, Reid said.

Airlines Ground 787 Dreamliner: Should Passengers Be Worried?

Following a string of high-profile technical glitches, Japan’s two major airlines, All Nippon Airways (ANA) and Japan Airlines (JAL), have grounded their fleets of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the world’s newest and widely regarded as the most technologically advanced passenger airplane. The most recent incident happened today when an ANA Dreamliner made an emergency landing in western Japan. The airline said in a statement “the aircraft’s instruments registered a problem related to a battery and crew also detected an unusual smell in the cabin and the cockpit.” News accounts tell of smoke filling the plane and passengers descending from emergency chutes after the plane landed at Takamatsu Airport. The Japan Times newspaper reports several passengers sustaining back pain and minor injuries such as abrasions after using the chutes.

Boeing Dreamliner 787 fire and fuel leak add to safety concerns

Two Boeing 787 Dreamliner planes have been the subject of safety scares within two days at Boston airport in the US, adding to concerns about the aircraft.
On Monday, an electrical fire erupted on one of Boeing's 787 Dreamliners operated by Japan Airlines at Boston Logan international airport. Authorities said a battery in the auxiliary power unit aboard the plane jet had suffered "severe fire damage".
On Tuesday at the same airport, a fuel leak forced a different 787 operated by JAL to cancel takeoff. Massachusetts Port Authority spokesman Richard Walsh said the plane was towed back to the gate after about 150 litres (40 gallons) of fuel spilled. He said the plane had 178 passengers and 11 crew members on board. Walsh said the plane was evaluated and departed that afternoon. A JAL spokeswoman said the crew had reported a "mechanical issue".
