This model is the ancestor of Virgin Empire. Sir Richard Branson started the Virgin Empire with a rented B747-200. The old livery Virgin has a smart red tail which is eye catching and can be easily identified among public. Virgin Atlantic Airways brings in a lot of renovation or revolution in the aviation industry. They introduced TV screen on economy and a 180 degree flat bed which is now become the industry benchmark. And who will ever forget the famous and controversial slogan, “NO way AA/BA” .

波音787「夢想機」今試飛未來客運主力明年付運

【明報專訊】標榜環保的美國波音公司新一代787型號「夢想機」（Dreamliner），預定於本港時間今晨2時首次試飛。今次試飛已推遲了兩年多，備受各界關注，若試飛成功，將標誌它成為未來航空客運主力的重要里程碑。如一切順利，波音787將會在明年付運。

夢想機上周六已通過最後的功能測試。波音表示，在周六的跑道滑行測試中，787能以最高時速240公里滑行，機頭的輪子也順利離開地面，距離實際起飛只差一步。波音副總裁兼787首席項目工程師德萊尼（Mike Delaney）說﹕「機師告訴我，客機表現非常好。我們正檢查和分析資料，以確保試飛準備就緒。」若天氣合適和能見度佳，787會從波音位於西雅圖以北的機場工廠起飛，進行約4至5小時的試飛。首航後，787還將進行為期9個月的一系列空中測試，才可付運。

環保作招徠省油20%

本身屬中型客機的787，是波音逾10年來首次開發的機種。它以環保作招徠，機身採用革命性的較輕碳纖維合成物料製造，較同級客機省油20％。波音總裁阿爾鮑（Jim Albaugh）說﹕「這是一架非常高效能的飛機，它將改變人們的旅遊方式。787較其他飛機更環保、採用較少燃料，有助營運者節省成本，亦可讓乘客付更少錢和有更好享受。」

China airlines has been well known for its horrified safety record, this B747SP has survived in one of the most terrifying aviation incident. The aircraft was enrouted to the West Coast of USA across Pacific, as the plane approached the coastline, it runs into a significant turbulence and the plane has loss control and is about to crash, however just before it impact the ground, the pilot manage to take control of the plane and land the plane safely. The plane has been repaired and returned to service, however it became significantly fuel economical after the incident, boeing later discovered that the wings of the plane has been bended upward after the incident which improve the aero-dynamic, this accidental discovery has been used into the future development of modern aircrafts
