Pokémon Jet

Who wouldn’t like Pokémon, especially one that in such a sharp yellow color grace in the sky?  ANA has once again painted another Pokémon jet, this time namely the Pikachu on a B747-400D.  With the gigantic size of a B747, the livery is fully demonstrated with action of different pocket monster in action.  This long sold-out model of Hogan 200 scale model has replicated the original of the jet and is loved by collectors all over the world.  Thanks to my customer Oscar, I have been able to witness this gigantic piece in person and I love it.

Farewell to Singapore 747

The model shown in the picture is the 1000^th Boeing 747 which delivered to Singapore Airlines in the 90s.  It is a significant benchmark for not only Boeing but for Singapore airlines as well.  Singapore airline names its B747-400 the “Megatop” and is easily been spotted by plane-spotter all over the world.  Time flies and the Queen of sky gradually leaving the heart of aviation.  Singapore airline has phrase out its last passenger version of B747-400 namely 9V-SPQ in year 2012.  We will all miss this bird in such a graceful livery.

Mcdonald B747SP

Ronald Macdonald House Charities of Hong Kong has launched a fund raising program in Hong Kong to provide a “home-away-from-home” for the families of children to receive treatment at the nearby hospital.  It provides accommodation in a supportive, loving environment, just minutes away from the sick child’s bedside.

This small cute-looking B747-SP with smiling face of children printed on the fuselage delivered a love and caring message to people who possess it.  It was one of my childhood memories when my parents bought me this plane.  The livery may not be real, but the message is cleared.

Northwest B787 Dreamliner

A familiar color on an unfamiliar bird.  Northwest, used to be a large operator into transpacific market.  A regular visitor to Kai Tak and Chap Lap Kok.  However this all became history.  After the merge with Delta, Northwest became history, the former graceful silver looking bird gradually disappeared from the sky. 

Ever since the launch of the 787 program, Northwest has placed an order with Boeing for this prototype 787.  However, the airline did not have the fate to wait till its plane to grace in the sky.  

This model became the lone memory of the collector and I am sure this smart looking “arrow to the NW” logo will last forever in our memory.

PolyU strikes landmark deal with Boeing

The signing of an Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) and The Boeing Company has paved the way for the establishment of Hong Kong's first Aviation Services Research Centre (ASRC).

國泰為減磅 擬拆機上電視

【明報專訊】備受油價波動困擾的國泰航空（0293），正謀劃透過拆除機上電視屏幕來為飛機減磅。國泰行政總裁史樂山周一在北京參加航空協會論壇期間表示，為減輕飛機重量並達到省油目的，國泰未來會考慮拆除飛機上的部分娛樂設備，即包括拆除每個座椅靠背上的電視屏幕，此舉料能為每架飛機減磅1至2噸。

待平板電腦普及 最快5年後實現

史樂山指出，隨着平板電腦的普及，未來乘客可能不再需要一些機上娛樂設施，其中最主要的就是座椅靠背上的電視屏幕。目前來說，拆除所有屏幕僅是一個想法，最快也要等5、6年後平板電腦真正普及，國泰才會考慮實施。以一架普通客機為例，史樂山預計透過拆除所有屏幕可減輕1至2噸的重量，因此省油效果應會顯著。

為了方便乘客使用自帶的平板電腦，屆時還可能在每個座位提供電源插座，史樂山表示提供電源並不會額外增加太多燃油消耗，因為座位本身已經接駁電力。史樂山在論壇上再次提到油價波動給國泰盈利造成困難，並稱會探索各種可以賺錢的方法。

可減輕飛機重量達2噸

國際航空運輸協會本周一（11日）召開年會，其間全球航空運輸業高層匯聚北京，商討航空業發展及挑戰課題。會上，協會舉辦方對所有在場人士進行了一次即場調查，詢問搭乘飛機時你會做些什麽。現場近乎有七、八成人表示自己會在機上睡覺，僅少數人會使用機上娛樂設施。對此，史樂山笑說因為是即場調查，調查對象大多是航空公司總裁，所以他們在機上休息睡覺可以理解，調查本身沒什麼參考性。他強調國泰提供的機上電影節目是很豐富的。

國泰省油怪招層出不窮其實歷來已久。早在2005年，國泰就曾成立一個「飛機減輕專責小組」，發動員工為省油出謀劃策，徵集而得的招數包括不再給機隊外殼髹上國泰標誌，轉而改為磨光的金屬表面、選用更輕巧的餐車、考慮用較輕紙張刊印機上雜誌，以及提高航班準時率，以讓機長毋須為了趕時間而加快飛行速度等怪招。

Best seat on the plane

An interesting research conducted by Skyscanner.

The battle for the best seat on a plane is one airlines seem to find ever more inventive ways of monetising.

But flight comparison website Skyscanner today claimed to have identified the perfect place to perch.

The site surveyed more than 1,000 airline passengers on their seat preferences - the study did not consider the extra legroom factor - looking at which section of the aircraft they chose, and whether they sat in the middle, aisle or window.

And the verdict is in - seat 6A.

My "Hello Kitty Jet" Corner

Eva Airways and Hello Kitty have introduced the second generation of the Kitty Jets. They are being painted on the three newly leased Airbus A330-300.

The first A333 name "With Magic Star", it features Hello Kitty and friends wave their magic wand, sprinkling shining stars and heralding the start of a happy journey.

The Second A333 name "Love Apples" it features Hello Kitty and friends holding their favorite fruits, the green and red apples appears across the fuselage.

The last A333 name " Around the World" it features, Hello Kitty and friends travelling around the world with important landmark such as Taipei 101, Mount Fuji, (the not straight tower), (Sydney Opera) and (Effal Tower) etc.

The three Kitty Jets will be flying to mainly Japan, Korea and other regional Asia destinations. Next time when you are in the airport, look for them, in alternative, you can also see them in our shop.

JAL and Yoshinoya to Serve Traditional Beef Bowls on Select International Routes

TOKYO, March 1, 2012: Japan Airlines (JAL) is collaborating with Yoshinoya Holdings - the largest chain of beef-bowl restaurants, to bring its trademark dish to customers on select international flights from today, March 1, 2012. For three months until May 31, 2012, customers traveling with JAL from Tokyo to New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, London and Frankfurt in every cabin class will be able to enjoy Air Yoshinoya - the JAL Original version of the establishment’s specialty beef-bowl.

手機嘟一嘟 數秒辦好登機

(綜合報道)(星島日報報道)繼電子登機證後，本港機場上月再推嶄新服務，市民只需透過智能手機，以短訊或電郵收取備有條碼的手機電子登機證，直接到離境閘口，如「嘟」八達通卡般，掃描手機登機證，即可入閘，較原來手續省時三成。機管局表示，現有九家航空公司提供相關服務，料每日最少有百分之二旅客選用。

　　以前乘搭飛機，乘客需預早一至兩小時到機場櫃位辦理登機手續，領取列印出來登機證及機票，後來陸續被電子機票取代。為再進一步節省旅客時間及減少浪費紙張，外地不少航空公司已推出環保電子手機登機證，持手機直接到離境閘口進行登機程序，毋須到櫃位辦理。

　　網上辦手續 收電子條碼

　　本港國際機場去年中開始進行有關測試，至上月正式推行電子手機登機證，現時已有九家航空公司參與，包括國泰、港龍、阿聯酋、英航、法航、達美、漢莎、荷蘭皇家及美國航空公司。乘客於相關航空公司網站完成網上預辦登機手續後，可選擇以短訊或電郵，接收備有條碼的手機電子登機證。

　　無行李寄艙的乘客，可直接憑手機顯示的登機證條碼，在閘口掃描器上如「嘟」八達通卡般，通過安全檢查及出境櫃枱，「嘟」手機過程不足幾秒。

　　有寄艙行李的乘客，只須提早四十五分鐘於自助登機站辦理好寄艙手續，再「嘟」手機進行登機程序。

　　籲乘客提早「開機」

　　機管局客運大樓運作助理總經理郭永強表示，透過手機電子登機證，市民辦理登機手續時間可快三至四成，但呼籲乘客提早「開機」，「測試時有乘客行到去閘口才打開手機，再下載登機證，我們會建議乘客到閘口前，在手機預備好登機證。」

　　香港機場每日有七萬五千人次出境，參與計畫的航空公司客量佔逾半，他預計日後有百分之二，日均約一千五百名旅客會使用新的手機登機服務。

　　新服務可節省紙張，亦能提升登機效率，郭透露，新加坡航空未來將引入手機登機服務，估計吸引更多乘客使用，機管局會不時更新系統配合需求。現時出境櫃位已增加五十三部掃描器，海天客運碼頭亦有類似設施，整項計畫耗資一百六十萬元。

Mile-high matchmaking: KLM to let passengers choose their seat-mates through Facebook

It may sound like a recipe for disaster, or at least an open invitation for passengers to join the mile-high club.

But Dutch airline KLM is developing a tool which will allow passengers to choose who they sit next to on flights, by accessing each other's Facebook and LinkedIn profiles.

The service, called 'meet and seat', will enable travellers checking in online to access the social networking sites and pick their ideal neighbour.

The idea is for passengers to be able to pick people with the same interests as a seat-mate.

But access to the websites will also allow them to buddy up based on their looks and even what job they do.

Currently still in development, the match-making service is due to launch early next year and further details are under wraps.

For those who prefer to plug in their headphones and studiously ignore their neighbour, there will be an opt-out option so they don't have to share their personal information.
